Catherine Anne Aronson

I enjoy playing with different materials, such as adding salt. I love the delicious medium of paint and the flexibility of charcoal.
These works are a selection of the results. I hope they give you as much pleasure and joy, as I felt in their creation.

Epigenetics

These artworks are simple representations of the changes and movements that happen in our brains when we consume substances that affect our dopamine levels. This loose form is taken from a photograph of the brain cells. In this work, color is used as a means to express vitality, and purity - a brain that has not been subjected to opiates, alcohol, or sugar. The square format for me signifies containment, logic, and structure.I loved Kandinsky's view that color could be whatever you felt appropriate for what it is you want to express, akin to kinesthetics.Thin layers of oil paint carefully blended give the work a luminescence.

Domus Propositum

In the Domus Propositum series, I was initially inspired by the work of Hans Hoffman and Sean Scully. Each is an abstraction of the floor plan of a home that I have lived in.I felt these abstract expressionists, and many others, have a way of painting emotion and placing it into a logical format.Kandinsky's understanding of color and its relationship to our physical and spiritual body is the second theme running throughout the series. The square format in these artworks is relative to the idea of structure, how we live in 'structures' during our life, and the effects and memories this creates.

Symphonia Coloris

In these works, I was really enjoying the textural quality of the paint, and the relationship between colors, and forms. All have different energetic responses in the moment.

Sal Opera

I was exploring the nature of salt, on paper, and its reaction to ink and water. I previously experimented with sugar, but the dog ate those. These are more natural forms.

Current Work

Currently, I'm exploring working with much larger canvases to get a sense of embodiment. I love the different forms and feminine qualities of trees, and fish.
I worked for many years as a photographer, so I am planning on using some images of the Australian landscape as inspiration.
